On Wednesday, October 26, Fund for Shared Insight gathered 140 feedback focused partners, grantees and funders for a time of encouragement, community-building and learning in Washington DC.
The purpose of the gathering was to inspire and provide networking opportunities for those on the frontlines listening and responding to those they seek to help. We also held the gathering to help foster sharing of what we are learning and to show funders how they can step into this work to make it even more impactful.
Feedback and Stories From Grantee Partners
A number of our grantee partners shared practical examples of how they are collecting, analyzing, and responding to feedback from their beneficiaries. Shared Insight grantee Our House, located in Little Rock Arkansas, shared how they are changing the culture within their organization to truly value the voices of those they serve by having staff play a key role and take ownership in the feedback process.
Another grantee partner, Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), introduced us via video to Luis. Luis shared how CEO is giving him a safe space to provide honest feedback to the organization as he makes his way through their programming, which is helping him find work after being incarcerated.

Hearing From Other Grantees and Funders
Other Shared Insight grantees that shared their unique feedback journeys were Nurse-Family Partnership, Habitat for Humanity of Greater San Francisco, YouthTruth, PACE Center for Girls, and Good World Solutions.
We were also joined by Fred Reichheld, a Bain Fellow and the creator of the Net Promoter System (NPS). Our Listen4Good Initiative uses an adapted version of the NPS to hear from the people we seek to help. Fred encouraged us to think about NPS less in terms of a score and more as measuring net lives enriched.
The day ended with representatives from the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg foundation discussing with their respective grantees PACE Center for Girls and Our House, why funders must get more involved and allow the voices of beneficiaries to inform their giving.
