EMCF Becomes a Core Funder

Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, which champions economically disadvantaged youth, has stepped up its commitment to Fund for Shared Insight, moving from being a Listen4Good co-funder to one of the collaborative’s overall core funders.

“We are excited to join our funder colleagues and support Fund for Shared Insight,” says Lissette Rodriguez, EMCF’s vice president and chief program officer. “We believe it’s critical foundations and nonprofits strengthen how they ‘listen’ so that they meaningfully connect with the people, organizations, and communities they seek to help and be more responsive to their needs.”

Shared Insight now has 13 core funders and a total of 67 funding partners in all.

We welcome additional funders to join our effort. For more information on how to get involved, please click here or contact Shared Insight’s managing director, Melinda Tuan, at melinda@fundforsharedinsight.org.

New Grants Awarded

2017 Summer Cohort of Listen4Good

Listen4Good (L4G) is a collaborative effort among many funders that is dedicated to building the practice of listening to the people nonprofits and foundations seek to help whose voices are least heard. Today, we announce the 2017 Summer Cohort of nonprofits selected for this initiative. Please see below for a full list of our 66 new L4G grantees. This brings to 112 the total number of nonprofits participating in L4G. A searchable list of all of Fund for Shared Insight’s grantees can be found here.

Thirty-six co-funders joined to support the 2017 Summer L4G Cohort, including 28 new to Shared Insight (see list below). Among the new funders is Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, located in Maricopa County, Arizona, which nominated eight of the selected grantees.

Dr. Susan Pepin, President and CEO of the Trust, shares her enthusiasm for working with a portfolio of grantee organizations on L4G: “We are excited about the opportunity to create an effective feedback loop with their clients to improve programs and services on their behalf.”

Other funders new to L4G in the 2017 Summer Cohort showed their enthusiasm for the work by collaborating to nominate shared grantees. This was the first time funders have paired up, and we saw such collaboration in South Carolina, New Hampshire, and New Mexico.

One of the pairs — Troy. M. Hanna, President and CEO of The Spartanburg County Foundation, and Kathy Dunleavy, President and CEO of the Mary Black Foundation, in Spartanburg, South Carolina — expressed appreciation for the opportunity to partner with national funders through L4G: “Through Listen4Good, we are able to bring national foundation dollars to benefit our local community,” says Hanna. Adds Dunleavy: “We look forward to learning alongside our foundation and nonprofit colleagues around the country as we listen to the people we seek to help. We are all partnering to listen4good.”
